Talia Expands African Coverage, 'Good Works' Scheme for NGOs and Charities
Good Works provides free hardware with Pan-African services
LONDON, UK. -- 2009-03-24
Talia Limited, one of the largest suppliers of satellite Internet for Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, are pleased to announce expansion of African services along with an enhanced 'Good Works' scheme designed to support NGOs and charities.
'Good Works' -- Free Hardware for Charities and NGOs
'We came up with the Good Works scheme to help organisations which are out there trying to make a difference,' said Alan Afrasiab, CEO of Talia. 'We look at each part of the process and try to reduce or eliminate costs wherever possible.'
Talia sees the Good Works scheme as a way to bring reliable communications to remote workers, and will help by offering free hardware whenever possible.
'Most of the people in the industry talk about communications services as a requirement of business, which is certainly true,' said Travis Mooney, COO of Talia. 'But with expatriates, especially those stationed in countries vastly different to their home, communications are not just a business tool, but a lifeline back to friends and family.'
'We know that cost is always a concern in the charitable sector, so we're trying to do something about it while maintaining the highest levels of support and customer care,' said Mr. Afrasiab. 'It's a cliche, but every little bit does help.'
Expanded African Coverage via Arabsat BADR-6 and Arabsat 5A
Talia has expanded their African coverage on Arabsat BADR-6, bringing more capacity within the reach of West and East African customers. In addition, Talia has secured capacity on Arabsat 5A to build pan-African communications networks.
But, it's not just about opening another market.
'We realise that there are a lot of NGOs and charitable organisations in Africa,' said Mr. Afrasiab. 'So, along with the Good Works, we need to increase African coverage.'
The Good Works expansion into Africa has won the early praise of iDirect, Talia's satellite communications technology partner.
'We applaud this important effort by Talia to open new lines of communication in Africa,' said David Harrower, iDirect's Regional Vice President and Managing Director, Europe, Russia and CIS. 'Identifying where satellite technology can make a meaningful difference is an important mission for our industry, and Talia is taking a valiant leadership position.'
